COUNCILMAN HAS TO RECANT HIS VOTE AGAIN

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE AUG 3 CITY COUNCIL MEETING

STEVE GLOVER WAS A NO SHOW TO THE MEETING BUT HIS WIFE ANNA SHOWED UP FOR HIM.

MIKE MALONE VOTES ON A MATTER THAT HAS TO DO WITH HIS WIFE. MELINDA MALONE NEEDS SOME TRAINING AND MIKE VOTED TO PAY FOR THE TRAINING AND FOR HIS WIFE’S MILEAGE. THE CITY ATTORNEY TOLD HIM HE COULD NOT DO THAT AND MIKE RECANTED HIS VOTE. SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN.

MAYOR LANSDELL INFORMED THE COUNCIL THAT BECKY WADKINS HAS FILED A CLAIM AGAINST THE CITY FOR AN INJURY SHE HAD FROM A FALL AT CITY HALL. ANNA WADKINS TOLD CHUCK LANSDELL HE WAS NOTHING BUT PURE TRASH FOR SAYING HER MOTHER HAS FILED CLAIM AGAINST THE CITY. ANNA NEEDS TO HAVE A TALK WITH HER MOTHER BECAUSE THE CLAIM WAS TALKED ABOUT IN THE DEC 2009 COUNCIL MEETING.

THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE MONTHS BILLS AND ONE OF THE PAYMENTS WAS TO DAN ROSSER. HE GOT PAID 240 DOLLARS FOR THE 10 MINUTE SPECIAL CALL COUNCIL MEETING. WOW!!!!!!!!

THE SENIORS CENTER IS GETTING LOW ON MONEY. THE COUNCIL AGREED TO GIVE THE CENTER 2,000 DOLLARS.

THE COUNCIL HIRED BECKY WADKINS. ROSSER TOLD THE COUNCIL YOU CAN HIRE HER AND THE MAYOR CAN FIRE HER.

THE COUNCIL STILL HAS NOT FIRED PART TIME CITY CLERK MARSHA ALLEN.

  1. Marsha is good for our city. She knows what she is doing. Leave her alone.

  2. BTW, the new city attorney only brought up the fact that Mike couldn't vote on an issue concerning his wife, after Melinda made the attorney aware of it...guess they've heard of the ethics complaints that could be coming Mike's way, because of past votes he has cast...hmmmmmm

  4. Questions?

Steve Glover's Wife can't set in for him correct? She is not an elected or appointed official to take his place right? what was Steve's excuse for not attending. You would think that this is an important meeting.

It seems that Mike Malone wasn't paying attention at the last 2 or 3 meetings. Are they going to investigate him as well?

So Malinda wasn't qualified after all?

So if Ms. Wadkins was fired and then called back by Malinda, then was she legally working for the city when she got hurt? If she wasn't then what about her worker's comp case?

Please give truthful and correct answers only.

  5. It appears our new attorney is formost interested in how he will be paid!!! We will probably be seeing a big change in the attorney fees, since Becky has been fired and this new guy has been hired, "Johnny on the spot." This is the sort of thing that should have been and other applicants should have been considered. If there had not been secret meetings and phone conversations among some of the council members, why did some of the council members know about this guy and others had never heard of him until he was voted in??? When a city council member calls an emergency meeting for something that could have waited until the next meeting, to cover his tracks for an ignorant ethics violation he made in the past meeting, he should have to pay the extra fees involved....like the $240 attorney fee!!

Becky Wadkins has been in the hospital (at death's door) so many times in the past. Several times in the past year. The report is she has terrible, uncontrolled, Blood Pressure Problems, can just hardly get around....just in terrible medical condition. Why is someone so feeble allowed to work at City Hall. When she fell, was it because of an existing medical conditio??????

  6. Steve Glover's wife was not actually sitting in for him...that was sarcasm to let you know that Steve was conveniently not at the meeting. And yes, it was important. Guess he didn't want to face certain questions, etc.

And no, Mike still didn't know better.

And I believe Ms. Wadkins had resigned & then was ask back by Melinda - but good question...did she have the authority to ask her back, was it legal, & what does that do to the comp. claim?

  7. And that is correct...Mayor Lansdell or Councilperson Lambert did not know anything about the new attorney - they had not been consulted at all - but the "4" seemed to know all about it. Same way with the ordinance that Malone introduced last night, taking away all hiring & firing ability from the Mayor - Lansdell or Lambert had not seen it - Question to ponder...wonder if the "4" would have still introduced that ordinance if their beloved Mignon was still Mayor? of course not...

SHE CAN'T TAKE STEVE'S PLACE. SHE WAS (JUST GUESSING) THERE TO SEE HER MOM GET HIRED. I AM SURE THAT WAS PART OF A CLOSED MEETING OF THE FOUR TO KNOW THAT MIKE WAS GOING TO HIRE HER. ALTHOUGH AS THE ATTORNEY SAID, THE MAYOR CAN FIRE HER IF HE CHOOSES TOO. OR HE MAY KEEP BOTH BECKY WADKINS AND MARSHA ALLEN. THE COUNCIL STILL HASN'T FIRED HER AND SHE IS STILL CLOCKING IN AND WORKING. IT WILL BE A BIG PAYDAY FOR HER IN THE NEAR FUTURE. BETWEEN BACK PAY, PUNITIVE DAMAGES, DISCRIMINATION, ALLEN'S ATTORNEY FEES, AND COURT COSTS, THE TOWN WOULD HAVE GOTTEN OFF MUCH CHEAPER BY ALLOWING HER TO RECIEVE HER PAY INSTEAD OF REFUSING TO PAY HER. AS FOR STEVE WAS PROBABLY IN TUNICA TRYING TO WIN MONEY TO PAY HIS ATTORNEYS FEES FOR THE ETHIC VIOLATIONS AGAINST HIM. HE SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT HIS ATTORNEY FEES WILL COME OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET AND NOT THE TAX PAYERS! SINCE HE IS A COUNCIL MEMBER AND A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY, IT IS A DOUBLE WAMMY AND COULD ME DOUBLE FINES OR EVER DISMISSING HIM AS AN LAW OFFICER.

It seems that Mike Malone wasn't paying attention at the last 2 or 3 meetings. Are they going to investigate him as well?

YES THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS FILED ON HIM ALSO. NOT SURE IF AN AGENT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED YET TO MIKE'S CASE, BUT I HAVE HEARD THAT 3 PEOPLE HAVE A CASE NUMBER AGAINST STEVE GLOVER. AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THINGS, IT LOOKS AS THOUGH HE HASN'T LEARNED ANYTHING EITHER.

So Melinda wasn't qualified after all?

MELINDA IS CERTIFIED. ALABAMA STATE LAW REQUIRES HER TO TAKE A RECERTIFATION CLASS EACH YEAR.

So if Ms. Wadkins was fired and then called back by Melinda, then was she legally working for the city when she got hurt? If she wasn't then what about her worker's comp case?

THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION. MELINDA STATES THAT THE COUNCIL CALLED FOR HER TO COME BACK AFTER SHE RESIGNED. IF THAT IS TRUE THEN SHE WAS LEGALLY HIRED OTHER THAN SHE WASN'T HIRED BACK IN A COUNCIL MEETING (MORE CLOSED MEETINGS BETWEEN THE 4). AS FAR AS HER WORKERS COMP CASE, MELINDA OR MARSHA WOULD NEED TO CALL TO SEE IF IT IS STILL ACTIVE. SOME WORKERS COMP FILINGS CAN STILL WORK WITH LIMITATIONS AND NEED A LETTER CLEARING HER TO RETURN TO WORK AND WHAT HER RESTRICTIONS WOULD BE. WITHOUT CLEARANCE BECKY WADKINGS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK.

IF SHE WAS CALLED BACK TO WORK BY MELINDA ALONE AND NOT COUNCIL VOTE THEN YOU COULD ASSUME THAT THE CLAIM ISN'T VALID AND THAT IN MY OPINION, MELINDA WOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE WHAT, IF ANY HAD BEEN PAID TO BECKY FOR HER INJURIES.

  10. I second that "emotion". David Malone for mayor has a nice ring to it. He doesn't live in Cherokee, but neither did the former mayor.

  11. It is so obvious there are secret meetings going on whether in person or on the phone. 4 council members know just what is coming and who is to second the motion. So obvious and I am sure when the ethics is investigated it will be obvious to the inverstigator, too. Mayor and Lambert have been blind-sided so many times with motions they knew nothing about. Give us a break you mighty 4.
We are not as stupid as you.

  12. Why are the "4" so determined to tie Mayor's hands on everything? They want him to have no power to do anything. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO STATE WHAT THE MAYOR HAS DONE WRONG, THAT WARRANTS THIS ACTION. Someone has to be in charge at the top, and it does not need to be Malinda. She does a great job as City Clerk and she knows her job well, but she is NOT the mayor.
Please stop ganging up on the Mayor and let him do his job. If each of the councilpersons would
try to take care of their own district and bring suggestions to the work session and include the Mayor, things would really get going in Cherokee. THE STRUGGLE FOR POWER HAS GOT TO STOP. We have the power to get things done if we stop crippling it.

  13. Anyone know why Glover couldn't attend? I guess because it wasn't a special 9am meeting. It's only one night a month. They shouldn't get paid for the months where they dont attend the council meeting!

  14. Did the ordinance to take the Mayors hiring & firing ability away pass? And if so where does this leave Marsha? And where will that leave this town if the Mayor no longer has any ability to make decisions regrading this town? I'd say right where Migion wants it to be!! In her hands! I do not see any way out of this situation except to get the puppets out of here!!
