DID YOU KNOW THAT THE CHEROKEE CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO PUT MELINDA MALONE OVER THE CHEROKEE’S LIBRARY MONEY BEFORE THE CREDIT CARD SCANDAL? COUNCILMAN MIKE MALONE VOTED TO PUT HIS WIFE IN A POSITION TO CONTROL THE LIBRARIES MONEY. WHY? THIS HAPPENED BEFORE ANYONE KNEW ABOUT THE CREDIT CARD SCANDAL.
DURING THE LIBRARY AUDIT THE ACCOUNTING FIRM FOUND A CREDIT CARD STATEMENT THAT WAS OVERDUE. WHEN THE ACCOUNTING FIRM DID SOME RESEARCH, THEY DISCOVERED THE OVERDRAWN CREDIT CARD. WHICH ENDED UP IN AN ARREST.
MAYOR CHUCK LANSDELL WANTED THE INVESTIGATION TO INCLUDE THE BOOKS THAT MELINDA MALONE WAS HANDLING AND THE LIBRARY CHAIRWOMEN REFUSED AND MIKE MALONE AND JOE FRANKS STORMED OUT OF THE MEETING.

ReplyDeleteFacts are wrong. At the time of the discovery of the misuse of the credit card, Melinda was not handling the library money. The auditor had recommended in March 2008 to then mayor, Mignon Willis and the council that the city take over the library accounts. No action was taken on the auditor's advice. Maybe Mignon put it with all those letters in the bathroom in Mississippi. Anyway had the former Mayor and council taken the advice of the auditor, at least a years worth of money wouldn't have been taken. To my knowledge no one stormed out of a meeting with the library board. I was at everyone of them. The Library board always handled theirselves professionally. The credit card issued was discovered by Sheila Graham. She then brought it to the library boards attention and then the investigation began.
ReplyDeleteMike did storm out of a special meeting with the auditors, that included the water board. Melinda's part in the scandal is the fact she notirized a paper with Ellen signature on it that she did not sign. Paige got her to notirize it. Ellen did not want to file charges because she said it was against her ways. So she let someone get away with commiting a crime that could have gotten the library back some money by going against Melinda's bonding. Of course, if you are apart of Mignon you can get away with just about anything.
